Was producing a natural progression from the things you have done in your career, or did you feel that you were taking a step in a
different direction? Have there been times in your role as a producer that you had to struggle to pull off what you were after? Is there
anything in your production experience that is a shining moment for you, maybe a moment where things came together on a level
beyond your expectations?
How has producing changed your approach to drumming in the studio, if at all? What other experiences outside of drumming have
had an impact on your approach to the drums? Do you think you will ever scale back your touring to be more active in the studio
and as a producer? Is there one aspect of your career that is more satisfying to you than
the others?

Well, I've always had ideas while recording regarding the big picture but this was different as it was the first time I had executive
call on every sound for a whole project.  I set up publishing and a record company and it was a head spinning learning process.  I
don't see doing this sort of thing full time as I really see my place behind the kit, but I think drummers make good producers
because they see music from the drivers seat.  They are the center, the vortex, and they have an idea of what they want to be
surrounded by musically.  So it was a natural progression regarding the Taylor Mills records.  I'm not sure if I have a "shinning
moment" so to speak other than getting what we were going for and many times exceeding the vision.  That's when the excitement
really happens.  As far as the different aspects go career wise, I just like to be busy and creative.  Everything is a balance and I'm
on the road so much that I need other sessions and gigs to keep me going so when I get back on the road I feel fresh.  If I did just
one thing all the time I'd go stir crazy.  It's all about the perennial search for a balance.

What do you have coming up this year?

Well, it'll be another 100 plus shows this year with Styx. I just
wrapped up about 12 drum clinics.  The Brian Wilson record is
coming out sometime this year.  I just did a track for Harry
Shearer's new record.  I'm off to Canada to do two shows with
Lawrence Gowan and Taylor will be in his band too.  There will
hopefully be more shows with him near year's end. And I'm
starting to write down ideas and concepts for the next dvd.  So
it's been a pretty nice mix.  I have nothing to complain about!  I
feel incredibly fortunate and I just hope to be this busy for the
foreseeable future.

Anything else you'd like to share with us?

It's been a pleasure, Julian!  I have to go pack my bags…..
thanks!
