Camco Tuxedo 5x14

Early 60's Camco 5x14 Tuxedo Snare

A friend gave this to me in pieces sometime in the mid-80's. Being just a little dumber than I am today, I didn't think much of it at the time. Nor did I care for the whimpy looking Economy Snare mechanism. I took them off, THREW THEM AWAY and installed a huge Ludwig Classic strainer I had lying around (idiot!). Only after I read Harry Cangany's EXCELLENT book, "Great American Drums and the Companies That Made Them 1920-1969" did I rescue this drum from my dusty, moldy basement and recognize it for the little gem it is. It's got a Ludwig P-85 strainer and Gretsch(?) cast bottom rim now.

The finish is semi-unique: black with gold threads and little flecks of abalone. It's not in any Camco catalog, yet is original. I'd been told it was called Capri Pearl.

I've since sold this drum to someone in Kansas. And, of course, I wish I hadn't...
